The perfect blogger outreach campaign – infographic

I was reading my feeds this morning and came across this little gem from our friend Darren Rowse at Problogger. He has put together a nice infogrpahic on what makes the perfect blogger outreach campaign.

I have worked on a lot of blogger outreach campaigns over the last few years and one of the first things I ask the client is what is in it for the blogger and his/her readers not just your marketing campaign? If there isn’t anything in it for both of them and the company then I tell them that it isn’t right for blogger outreach – it’s that simple.

I get a lot of PR approaches myself, some good, some bad and others which are truly terrible. You know who you are with your ‘bcc’ed emailed press releases that have absolutely nothing to do with me, my blog or my readers. Grrrr.

So have a read through the image below, I think it has encapsulated what you need to think about when you are planning to run an outreach campaign.

  1. Absolutely spot on. It is so, so important to impress on the client that the blogger needs to be getting something out of the relationship promotion. You can’t expect something for nothing.

  2. Thanks for your comment Rachael – that is true but you would be suprised at how many PR agencies just expect bloggers to think oh yeah this would be great to put on my blog. However, that said if it is really relevant and they can put their own slant on it often they will do.

  4. This is a great infographic.

Obviously the best spot is in the middle with the win win win.

I would argue though, that there are many bloggers who care a lot more about how you can help them, then how you can help their readers.

If you can do all three, then you’ll be sure to succeed.
